The Darkness May Start In Your Head, But It Doesn't Always Stay There

From two acclaimed Swedish creators, writer Anders Fager (The Valancourt Book of World Horror Stories, Tales From the Loop) and artist Peter Bergting (Joe Golem: Occult Detective, Tales from the Outerverse, We’ll Soon Be Home Again), comes original graphic novel The CrowsFirst published in Sweden by Natur & Kultur in 2020, Dark Horse is pleased to present the young adult horror-mystery graphic novel in English for the first time.

When Kim inherits an old family house in rural Sweden, there are notes posted everywhere. On the walls, the doors, even the ceiling. Reminders. Drawings. Of the monsters that still haunt the house and the land on which it sits. But the monsters aren’t just outside; they’re in Kim’s head, in the traumatic memories of an unsettling upbringing. What lurks in the corners of the house originates in the corners of the mind.

This stunning graphic novel is full of darkness, reconciliation, and exploration of the self.

The Crows will be presented in hardcover, and will retail for $19.99. The book will arrive at comic shops on April 13, 2022, followed by bookstores on April 26, 2022. It is now available to pre-order through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and your local comic shop

Praise for The Crows

Nominated for the 2020 August Prize for Children’s and Youth Literature

"The fact that traumas are transmitted from generation to generation is depicted as never before in the illustrated novel The Crows, where Kim, who inherits an abandoned family farm in the countryside, is confronted with his wounded legacy. Anders Fager portions the text out on several levels, in the form of post-it notes and voices from the past. Seamlessly, Peter Bergting’s evocative visual storytelling adds to the depiction of encountering a painful family heritage. Creepy horror elements and folk-belief deepen the unease that gravitates over both Kim and the reader." –August Prize jury notes

"Anders Fager writers for young adults in The Crows, with fantastically evocative, moody, and dark art from Peter Bergting. But there is no way out of the darkness." –Dagens Nyheter

"Bergting and Fager let the contours fade in gradually, with small words inserted as clues in the November hazy images. Pictures that, by the way, can be the most beautiful that Bergting has ever made. The reading experience is almost cinematic, the girl who on the next page turns into a witch a visual candy bag. At the same time, Fager's language opens up small abysses beneath it. He is poetic, short-cut, hyper-detailed.” –Expressen

“Questions from the readers get more complex the longer one reads … Both the writer and the artist are masters of horror." --Kristianstadbladet
