Orchid

A sixteen-year-old street-smart Valk (prostitute), Orchid used to be concerned only with stealing a small profit from her pimp in order to take care of her mother and younger brother, Yehzu. But when a run-in with a Shadow Rebel named Simon led to a series of events that ended in the deaths of her mother and brother, Orchid decided it was time to quit taking hits and start doling them out. Her fight starts now…

Simon

This bumbling and talkative member of the dwindling Shadow Rebel movement may get on his compatriots' nerves, but the technical knowledge he picked up during his time in the Robotics Slave Corps has proved invaluable. Though Simon can jerry-rig devices with ease, his unwavering optimism may be the greatest asset he brings to the fight against the fearsome dictator Tomo Wolfe.

Opal

When Orchid and Simon met her in the Wild, Opal, though an adept mutant killer, appeared to be a deranged old woman. However, they soon learned that Opal was a childhood friend of the mythical General China and even participated in his fabled—and failed—revolution against Tomo Wolfe. Opal's fighting ability and knowledge of rebellious warfare are currently the Shadow Rebels' greatest weapons.

Don Barrabas

Barrabas was born mute, with frightening jet-black eyes. His family thought he was a demon and tried to feed him to the mutant beasts of the Wild. However, somehow Barrabas could communicate with those undomesticated beasts, and they became more like family to him than his many brothers—whose vocal cords he removed as punishment for their cruelty to him. Now serving as one of Tomo Wolfe's most trusted soldiers, Barrabas and the cruel dictator are united by their mutual hatred for humanity.

Tomo Wolfe

Ruling over slaves, Bridge People, and leech addicts alike, Tomo Wolfe keeps himself removed from the rabble in his crisp, clean quarters in Fortress Penuel. A twisted dictator who defeated the folk hero General China, Tomo Wolfe is cruel without measure and will do whatever is necessary to increase his power—including killing those loyal to him to make a point.
