Detroit – — Revenue at the three Detroit casinos improved solidly from the year before, due in part to better weather conditions and an additional gaming day.

Revenue totaled $111 million at Greektown, MGM Grand and MotorCity casinos last month, up 15.6 percent from January 2014.

Compared to January 2014, revenue last month at MGM Grand Detroit increased 12.1 percent to $46.2 million. Greektown Casino had a 15.7 percent increase to $26.7 million. MotorCity Casino saw the biggest increase in revenues, up 20 percent to $38.1 million.

January 2015 had 10 gaming days — Fridays and Saturdays — compared to January 2014’s nine.

Last month’s results come after 2014 finished with the third straight year of declines for the casinos. It’s a trend prompted in part by a new smoke-free casino in Toledo.

The numbers were released Friday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Last January, record cold temperatures and snowfall cut into the number of people traveling to the casinos.

Market share for the casinos didn’t fluctuate much, with Greektown still bringing up the smallest portion, with 24 percent. MotorCity accounted for 34 percent while MGM accounted for 42 percent.
