The new health care behemoth formed by the merger of Beaumont Health System, Oakwood Healthcare and Botsford Hospital announced details of its new identity Thursday, including name changes for some hospitals.

Called Beaumont Health, the eight-hospital health system includes 3,337 patient beds, 163 outpatient sites and nearly 5,000 physicians.

Starting in June, the system’s hospitals will drop their previous colors in favor of cobalt blue, which was chosen based on consumer preference, visibility and research, according to Thursday’s announcement. The new logo was not yet released.

“Our research on what the community was asking from us was very clear,” Beaumont Health CEO John Fox said in a statement. “They wanted a simple way to describe the new single system that had been formed by the three founding organizations.

“Our decision was data-driven, truly based on consumer preference, and represents our new organization well as a leader in high-quality, affordable, compassionate care that is accessible to everyone in Southeast Michigan.”

All hospital names will include the word “Beaumont” and the city where the hospital is located. Some also will include a campus name to maintain the connection with their local communities.

Hospitals in the new system include Beaumont Hospital-Dearborn; Beaumont Hospital-Farmington Hills; Beaumont Hospital-Trenton; Beaumont Hospital-Taylor; Beaumont Hospital-Wayne. Those with campus names include Beaumont-Dearborn, Oakwood Campus; Beaumont-Farmington Hills, Botsford Campus; and Beaumont-Trenton, Southshore Campus.

The names of the Beaumont hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe will remain the same.

In late June, consumers will begin to see the new logo, color and hospital names on temporary signs at the eight Beaumont Health hospitals. Permanent signs will be installed at hospitals, major medical centers, outpatient sites, physician offices and private physician offices, starting in September and continuing until early next year.

In May, “part of Beaumont Health” was added to print and radio advertising and billboards. Advertising with the new logo and color will be developed.
