Only in Birmingham: Burger and fries for $55

The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham has unleashed an admittedly “upscale” burger that you can have for the price of $55.

The burger, sold at Rugby Grille inside the hotel, is composed of wagyu beef and includes sweet onion jam, Parmesan aioli, sliced truffles and Tomme cheese. It’s topped with braised short rib and seared foie gras. It also comes with a side of truffle fries.

The $55 Foie Burger at the Townsend Hotel is composed of wagyu beef, seared foie gras, braised short rib, a Parmesan aioli, sliced truffles, Tomme cheese and sweet onion jam.

The burger has been on the menu for about three weeks said Jared Chorney, director of food and beverages at the hotel. And it’s been “extremely well received,” Chorney said.

“We wanted to offer our diners something that is a little more upscale and a little more extravagant,” he said.

Wagyu beef refers to beef breeds of cattle genetically bred to produce layered, intense marbling. The kitchen has a special grind designed to work for the rich blend.

The waygu itself weighs in around a half pound before cooking. The burger is served on a wood block for easier cutting and disassembly.

“It’s a little bit more of a fork-and-knife burger,” Chorney said.
