A convicted Macomb County felon has been charged with the same crime again, St. Clair Shores police said Tuesday.

Robert Morey, 60, was arraigned Monday in 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores on charges of second-degree home invasion, receiving and concealing stolen property valued at between $1,000 and $20,000 as well as being a habitual offender, according to authorities and court records.

Morey was convicted of second-degree home invasion in 2003, according to court records. He was also convicted for offenses he committed in 1983, 1992, 2002, 2011 and 2012, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.

In his last conviction for second-degree home invasion, Morey was sentenced in 2013 to serve a minimum of seven years and was discharged from the state corrections system in October 2021.

A judge set Morey's bond at $75,000 and scheduled his next court appearance for Dec. 19.

The penalty for second-degree home invasion is up to 15 years in prison. Receiving and concealing stolen property between $1,000 and $20,000 is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Officials said Morey was arrested Saturday in connection with a St. Clair Shores home invasion.

Police were called at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday to the 19000 block of California Street near Nine Mile Road and Interstate 94 for a report of a home invasion, according to authorities. The residence was not occupied at the time.

Investigators said they later learned several items were taken, including a watch, a ring and necklaces.

Detectives said while officers were en route to the home on California, they were told by dispatchers that another home invasion was in progress on Maxine, one street north.

Officers arrived and found the suspect still in the home, taking jewelry and putting it into a backpack. As police surrounded the home, the suspect ran out of the back door.

An officer with a police dog chased the suspect and arrested him.

After a search of the suspect and his backpack, officers found items taken from the homes on California and Maxine.

Officials said the investigation is still ongoing.
