A Clarkston man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting at a Howell tattoo parlor over the weekend, police said.

Jeremy Michael Heath, 48, was arraigned Monday in 53rd District Court in Howell on a charge of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, a count of using a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed weapon, officials said.

A magistrate set Heath's bond at $200,000 and scheduled his next court hearing for next Tuesday, according to authorities and court records.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison for carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent charge, up to two years for the felony firearm charge and up to five years for carrying a concealed weapon.

Heath's attorney was not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

Police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and the county prosecutor's office was reviewing the matter.

Officers were called at about 5:30 p.m. Friday to a business in the 100 block of West Grand River Avenue for a complaint about threats, authorities said. They arrived and found a dead male with a gunshot wound inside the establishment, officials said.

Police detained a person at the scene and began an investigation. Authorities also said the incident did not have any connection to the city's annual Balloonfest event being held over the weekend.

On Saturday, investigators said the shooting happened at Metro Studios Ink and identified the victim as Sean Thompson, 46, of Howell. They said Thompson caused a disturbance at the business and there is a history of disputes between him and the tattoo parlor's staff.

Officials said they found no indication Thompson was armed but threats of violence were allegedly made. Police said a suspect in the shooting fired a single shot during an argument that struck Thompson and killed him.

On Monday, police identified the suspect they arrested at the scene and took to the Livingston County Jail to await charges as Heath.
