Lyon Township — A 27-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault in the fatal beating of a 43-year-old Lyon Township man who allegedly made unwanted sexual advances toward the younger man’s stepsister.

Phillip Myers of Lyon Township was arraigned last week after the Tuesday incident and is being held in the Oakland County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Christopher Markiewicz, 43, died early Monday in an area hospital, where he had been in intensive care. An autopsy determined his death resulted from neck compression with complications.

The death, now classified as a homicide, remains under investigation, and it is unclear if additional charges may result, according to Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe. The prosecutor’s office will review the case.

Markiewicz collapsed last Tuesday night, a couple of hours after he was allegedly beaten by Myers and the 17-year-old woman’s 19-year-old boyfriend at a Boyne Street residence.

According to investigators with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the woman told deputies she gave Markiewicz a ride home Monday night because he was highly intoxicated, and he made sexual advances, including touching her shoulder and leg.

The woman told deputies Markiewicz returned to the Boyne Street property Tuesday to apologize but wouldn’t leave, and that her boyfriend and stepbrother physically removed him.

Deputies tried to interview Markiewicz that night but he declined to press charges or seek medical attention. A couple of hours later after they left, Markiewicz developed breathing problems and was rushed to an area hospital by ambulance.
