Michigan State football landed its second receiver to the 2025 recruiting class.

Charles Taplin, a three-star wide receiver from Texas, took to social media Friday evening to announce his pledge to the Spartans' program. His commitment comes just five days after three-star offensive lineman Drew Nichols shared his verbal pledge to Michigan State on Monday.

Taplin is listed at 6-foot-1 and weighing 160 pounds. He was in East Lansing this past weekend, along with Nichols who was also taking his official visit. That visit was what sealed Taplin’s decision.

“After an amazing weekend at Michigan State University, I've decided to join the family and make them my new home,” Taplin wrote in a post to X, formerly known as Twitter. “I'm 100% committed. Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for the support on this journey.”

Taplin, a native of Red Oak, Texas, had received more than a dozen offers to play at the next level, including from Arkansas State, Arizona and Bowling Green.

Taplin is a three-star recruit ranked No. 154 in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports. He’s also listed as the No. 141 wide receiver prospect in the nation.

Taplin is the eighth verbal commit to Michigan State’s 2025 class and the third to make his pledge known this month, following Nichols and Sandusky (Ohio) Perkins receiver Braylon Collier.
