When Jonathan Smith took over the Michigan State job, he committed to devote a chunk of his resources to recruiting in-state talent.

It’s a word that he’s honored when it comes to building the Spartans’ 2025 recruiting class, as Michigan State landed yet another Michigan prospect this week.

Three-star Orchard Lake St. Mary’s tight end Jayden Savoury on Monday gave his verbal commitment to the Spartans. He’s the second commit from St. Mary's, following three-star linebacker Charles White, who pledged in April to take his talents to East Lansing.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 220 pounds, Savoury was a two-sport athlete, who prioritized basketball early in his career before putting more of a focus on football. His pivot paid off, as he fielded offers from more than a dozen schools, including Arizona State, Boston College, Bowling Green and Brigham Young.

Savoury is ranked as the No. 17 prospect in Michigan and No. 41 tight end nationally, according to 247Sports.

Savoury is the ninth verbal commit to Michigan State’s 2025 class and the fourth to make his pledge known this month, following Red Oak (Texas) receiver Charles Taplin, Murrieta Valley (California) offensive lineman Drew Nichols and Sandusky (Ohio) Perkins receiver Braylon Collier.
