Paintings by Lions' Stafford up for auction

Ever want to own a piece of artwork by Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford?

Oddly enough, now’s your chance.

Stafford teamed up with REPREVE, a leading recycled fiber brand, to create five Lions-themed paintings. But instead of using paintbrushes, Stafford dipped 12 footballs in various paint colors and threw them at the canvases, which are made out of recycled bottles, to produce his masterpieces.

All five paintings, which are 4 feet wide and 6 feet high, along with several footballs that were used are open for bidding on eBay until March 1. All the items are also autographed by Stafford.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center, which provides athletic and academic programs for Detroit’s youth.

“I value many lessons learned playing sports in my youth, and rebuilding this center provides an opportunity for Detroit’s youth to learn through the same process,” Stafford said in a statement. “The experience of creating these paintings is one that I’ll never forget.”
