Pacific Air Forces celebrated its 80th anniversary with a ceremony today at the Headquarters’ Courtyard of Heroes, honoring the command's airpower legacy in the Indo-Pacific theater.

"We celebrate eight decades – a remarkable journey and a testament to our commitment to the region and our nation," said Gen. Kevin Schneider, PACAF commander.

Tracing its roots to the Far East Air Forces, activated in Brisbane, Australia, on Aug. 3, 1944, PACAF has conquered numerous logistical challenges, largely due to the vastness of its territory, from providing consistent resupply to keeping aircraft ready and airborne.

"We are doing things nearly every day that were never in the books," said the command's first leader, Lt. Gen. George Kenney back in 1944, a sentiment echoed by Schneider.

Schneider underlined the importance of innovation and teamwork in overcoming contemporary challenges.

"As General Kenney did 80 years ago, we have obstacles to overcome, and we face adversaries with ill intent," he said. "We must compete, deter, and defend to ensure that we are ready to win against any rival."

PACAF has been at the forefront of aviation history since its inception in 1944. From World War II to Korea War and Vietnam War, and now preparing for the complexities of modern warfare, the command has consistently adapted to meet the challenges of its time.

The ceremony concluded with a dedication of an ōhiʻa tree, a Hawaiian native evergreen tree, symbolizing the command's deep roots and resilience.

PACAF has played a pivotal role in numerous conflicts, from World War II to the present. The command continues to adapt and evolve to meet the challenges of a changing security environment to defend the homeland, deter aggression, and reinforce allies and partners in the complex and ever-changing Indo-Pacific strategic environment.
