During this webinar, ERS Economist Carrie Litkowski will present the September 2024 update to the farm sector income and wealth forecasts for calendar year 2024.
Measurement of Output, Inputs, and Total Factor Productivity in U.S. Agricultural Productivity Accounts
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has been monitoring the U.S. farm sector’s productivity performance since the 1960s. The Economic Research Service estimates show that between 1948 and 2021, total farm output grew by 1.46 percent annually with total factor productivity growth being the primary driver.
Land Use of Rejected, Enrolled, and Expiring Fields in the Conservation Reserve Program

Climate-Induced Yield Changes and TFP: How Much R&D Is Necessary To Maintain the Food Supply?
Scenarios of total factor productivity (TFP) growth (agricultural efficiency), combined with climate-induced yield change and changes in population and income, to gain a better understanding of the future of agricultural production (and thus of food supply). The scenarios showed that TFP growth—with sufficient research and dvelopment (R&D)—can meet global food demand in 2050.
