They keep telling us who they are, so, you know, we should believe them. From The Washington Post:

Supporters of the monument have indeed pitched it as a symbol of reconciliation and unification after the Civil War, rather than celebrating the Confederacy. They instead call it the “Reconciliation Memorial.” Clyde didn’t mention the words “Confederate” or “Confederacy” once in his speech supporting the amendment Thursday. “Let us unite against the destruction of our history,” Clyde said. “Let us fight for the principles of healing and unity, which is exactly what this memorial was created to accomplish.”

The Post notes that 89 percent of the Republican caucus voted to replace the monument to treason and white supremacy on the confiscated lands of arch-traitor Robert E. Lee. These are the same people who have gone to war over schoolbooks that attempt to tell the real history of the country, every bloody chapter of it. And, of course, Representative Clyde himself has a bit of a taste for sedition in the modern context as well. It was Clyde who famously said of the January 6 insurrectionists:

“Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol and walked through Statuary Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes, taking videos and pictures. You know, if you didn’t know the TV footage was a video from January the 6th, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.”

Tapes released later showed Clyde in a panic, trying to keep the normal tourists from busting into the House gallery.

In 2022, Clyde voted against the Emmitt Till anti-lynching act. "Lynching is already a crime," he said. So is treason.
