    Historical Evolution of Urban Culture

    Despite the improvements in the quality of life, these cities were constant bearers of severe human rights violations. The basic population stratification standards, albeit harsher and more violent than rural societies, were implemented. These cities were to be built and protected not just as opposing poles to the deserted space, but also within themselves. The strategies for avoiding the unleashed violence were many and varied, ranging from building fences and gates, having watchmen and creating surveillance networks within houses, satirizing institutions, or simply making it look as if they possessed nothing of considerable value.

    What do cities mean? Are they a collection of buildings, aggregated willingly in the process of urbanization, or a labyrinth of places brimming with life and society? For centuries, cities have been seen as mere settings for historical events to unfold. Having ceased their preeminence during two thousand years of rural life, cities had endured this burlesque for too long. They have finally become spaces where people so genuinely represent themselves that choosing to leave them often amounts to making a critical mistake. Flavio Gikovate, the well-known São Paulo-based psychiatrist, asserts that we fail to understand many people's choices for living in small towns, even when they don't have very strong emotional ties to them, since their possibilities must necessarily be limited.

    Urban Architecture and Design

    In the case of New York, developed around 52 streets that organized public spaces, its local architecture gives shelter to the masses, becoming thus super known. Urban architecture is a set of ideas, thoughts, and styles that detail the environment of the city for its citizens and also for tourists.
