TOM JONES returned to the stage on Sunday evening for the final night of his summer tour after he cancelled multiple gigs after suffering with a bacterial infection last month.
Tom Jones makes comeback performance at Chester Racecourse
The Voice judge, 78, seemed in high spirits as he performed at Chester Racecourse, telling the crowd: “I made it.”
Speaking to the audience, he said: “We finally made it. Or I finally made it.
“We tried once before and we did not make it but we are here now. Strong.
“We have had a ball up here tonight and we hope you have too.”
Sir Tom Jones also paid a tribute to his late wife Linda, who died from cancer two years ago.
He told the audience: “I spied a young girl there and I thought I had to get with this girl.
"So I learned to dance and we were dancing. We got close, then we got closer and then we got real close.
“Then we got married and stayed married for 59 years.”
After the gig, Sir Tom took to his official Twitter page to thank his fans for making the show “memorable”.
In view of his 575,000 followers, he penned: “Didn’t it rain Chester! But you danced and sang through it!
“Thanks for making the last show so memorable!”
Last month, Sir Tom cancelled concerts due to his illness.
A post from his social media page at the time, read: “Sir Tom has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital.
“The condition is being well managed and under doctor’s orders, appropriate recovery time and rest is advised.”
Sir Tom added it was the “worse feeling” to let his fans down and he thanked them for their support.
Four days later a message from his page confirmed he was “feeling better” but still not ready to perform.
A day after, Sir Tom posted a message revealing he was better and returning to the stage at York Racecourse.
However, the Sex Bomb singer cancelled again, this time due to poor weather conditions.
He penned: “So disappointed about York last night and so sorry for you all.
“But lightening is unpredictable, dangerous and causes havoc so much better safe than talking about something tragic today.
“Hopefully see you soon, we are working on it.”
