Andrea McLean, 49, previously told her fans she was ditching various foods to help cleanse her gut.
Speaking about the shock change, the Loose Women star explained why she had to take the drastic action.
“My body hasn’t reacted well so I needed to cut out everything,” she spilled exclusively to Express.co.uk
“It’s not a fad, it’s for health reasons.
Everything will be reset and I’ll be better
“I’ve been quite poorly. I had to have a lot of tests done and I found out I have a few things that need sorting I need to completely reset my gut.”
Andrea, who has been doing the cleanse alongside her husband Nick Feeny, revealed she has another month of the restrictive diet.
She went on: “It’s not been easy. I have got used to it now and we are a few days off two months.”
“It’s hardcore but I think because I know I’m doing it for my health, it’s okay. Everything will be reset and I’ll be better.”
Andrea explained she has had to cut out grains, yeast, gluten, dairy and many other food products.
“It’s a very restrictive and plain diet but it’s not a diet for weight loss,” she divulged.
“It’s reseting so it’s been fairly tricky but we’re working our way round it.”
Andrea admitted her spouse has been “supportive” and would struggle without him on the journey.
“It would be so hard if he wasn’t doing it, if I was doing it on my own, it would be a lot more difficult,” she admitted.
Meanwhile, Andrea is working with Holland and Barrett as part of their Me.No.Pause campaign.
The star, who regularly talks about her menopause experience, said she believes it’s something which needs to be talked about more in public.
She said: “It affects every kind of woman regardless if you’re married or single, what religion you are, the menopause as a woman will affect you.
“Men need to know it’s happening as well, it’s completely natural.”
Andrea also said she believes the topic needs to be spoken about in schools.
Andrea McLean is supporting Holland & Barrett’s Me.No.Pause campaign, which aims to break the taboos around menopause and support women through it naturally. Find out more at hollandandbarrett.com or visit one of their 800 UK stores today.
