Carol Vorderman married first husband as mum suggested it
Carol Vorderman, 62, discussed her distaste for the idea of getting married again in a new podcast - and admitted she could think of nothing worse than living with a partner these days. The former Countdown mathematician described her first marriage as "absolute nonsense" and added that she now has multiple "special friends".
Talking over dinner during an episode of the Table Manners podcast, Carol - who apologised for being a slow eater - spilled her marriage secrets to Jessie and Lennie Ware.
"I briefly got married in my 20s - I didn't really want to get married," she admitted.
When asked why she took the huge step, she explained that her mother had thought she should - but that the union was "absolute nonsense".
"That lasted well - not," she exclaimed sarcastically of their 12-month marriage, adding that it was no-one's fault, but that aged 23 and 24, they were both "just so young".
"We got married within four months [of starting to date]," she confided, reminiscing over her relationship with Royal Navy officer Christopher Mather.

Carol was grinning broadly in her wedding photos, dressed all in white with a wreath of flowers tied around her forehead - but according to her, tying the knot wasn't something she'd really wanted for herself.
Four years after their divorce, she married the father of her children, Paddy King, who Carol now jokes was "good with a spreadsheet" after being asked if numbers turn her on.
Their marriage lasted 10 years, but she is adamant that even so much as living with a partner isn't an idea she'll entertain these days.
"God no, we don't want that. I couldn't think of anything worse, could you?" she exclaimed, adding that she now lives with her son, 26-year-old Cameron.
She then bashfully admitted that the rumours that she is dating multiple men are true.

She cackled with laughter as her hosts asked her whether she organises a rota to make sure she gets quality time with each, quipping: "I'd love Scouse on a Monday!"
Elsewhere on the podcast, Carol also addressed her bestselling book of all time - her Detox For Life book, which she admits was "slated by nutritionists at the time".
However, she claims that the advice she gave that horrified the public - "no wheat, meat, no dairy, no sugar for 28 days" - is now "standard".
Telling of how she first became unhappy with her weight, while caring for young children, she explained: "I was eating just to stay alive and stay awake.
"When you've got little ones, you're just knackered all the time. I put on a bit of weight and didn't like that, so I started a detox diet!"
She added that she believed the four week break from certain things could give the body's organs "a way of naturally detoxing".
