Jerry Springer dies aged 79
Jerry Springer died aged 79, months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, something that left fans devastated and stunned as he kept his health struggles private.
But his charming and caring demeanour remained the same until the end, as was proved in what appears to be his last recorded interview.
Speaking to Genevieve Hassan on her podcast Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did, Jerry wrapped up the chat by giving the host a heartwarming piece of advice.
He said: “I’d love to be back to talk to you again sometime. And remember, always take care of yourself and each other.”
Elsewhere in the candid chat, which aired on March 15, Jerry recounted his “single happiest moment in television” after he danced the Waltz with his daughter Katie on her wedding day.
He said: “Well, what happened [is], I remembered the steps, but Katie looked up at me and, because she’s wearing this big wedding gown, she says, ‘Dad, I can’t see our feet.’”
Jerry went on: “But when she came to Hollywood the night we did the Waltz and she came out of the audience, that was my single happiest moment in television.
“I mean, that was just… it was magical. So, that’s my best memory - it was all worth it because of that.”
Following Jerry’s death, Jene Galvin, a representative for the Springer family, told TMZ that the TV star had been “sick for months” and undergoing tests, which only recently showed how “dire” his pancreatic cancer was.
Galvin went on to highlight that Springer chose to keep his diagnosis within his family as they “didn't want to worry other people.”
He added that The Jerry Springer Show star chose to spend as much time with his family as possible, as his loved ones “shifted their entire focus” to help care for him.
