Stewart clashes with Corden onstage
SIR PATRICK STEWART became embroiled in a bizarre onstage spat with comic JAMES CORDEN at an awards show on Tuesday night (08Jun10), after accusing the portly host of slouching.
The Star Trek actor stepped on stage at the Glamour Awards in London to present a prize to Avatar actress Zoe Saldana.
But before he gave out the trophy, he addressed host Corden and berated him for giving the audience an unsightly view of his bulging belly.
He told the funnyman, "From where I was sitting, I could see your belly," while Cordon snapped back, "You could see my belly. I can see you dying right now," while Saldana also became involved in the dispute when she collected her trophy, telling Corden, "I like your belly but I'd like to see Sir Patrick Stewart dying on stage any day."
Corden then attempted to provoke the actor again by lifting his t-shirt to show the crowd his bloated stomach, adding, "Okay, can we get a taxi really quickly please. There's an old man going home.''
After the show finished, Corden admitted he was "disappointed" by the awkward quarrel with the star, explaining, "'I sound like my mum. I wasn't angry. I found it quite disappointing. You should ask him about it but I'm certain he's left.''
