GMB: Charlotte Hawkins tells Ben about 'sheeting rain'
Ben Shephard has reacted to Charlotte Hawkins' suggestion of a hearing aid after he feared she swore on Good Morning Britain on Friday. Ben, 49, questioned his co-star's pronunciation of "sheeting rain" as they discussed the rainfall across the UK.
Charlotte said she had been driving in "sheeting rain" to which Ben chimed in and asked: "It's what?" Charlotte clarified: "Sheeting, what did you think I said?"
Ben replied: "I wasn't sure," as he struggled to keep a straight face. Explaining further, she continued: "When it's a whole sheet of rain."
"A sheet of rain," he repeated with a smirk on his face. As she continued to try and clarify what she meant, Ben struggled to stay serious to which she said: "I'm not even going to talk to you now," and handed the segment over to weather presenter Laura Tobin.
Joking about the moment on social media, Charlotte shared a picture of herself and Ben posing for the camera as he wore her glasses. She wrote: "Morning… Happy Friday! @benshephard very pleased I lent him my reading glasses but I think he may need a hearing aid as well after querying my pronunciation of ‘sheeting rain’ @GMB."
Ben also shared the post on his page, writing: "Yeah it’s very clear now thanks to the bins she’s lent me she def said “Sheeting down” not what I heard."(sic)
Many viewers flocked to the post to share their thoughts as one agreed with Ben and what he heard.
They commented: "Charlotte definitely said 'sheeting'," alongside multiple crying with laughter emojis. A second joked: "The best sheeting rain is always the first!"
A third typed: "Yep well it is early," while a fourth added: "Sheeting rain? Well then I’m going to have to listen!"

Viewers were also quick to give their opinion on a segment towards the end of the show about whether or not married people should take off their wedding ring.
One wrote: "Surely when you wake up in the morning looking at your spouse should be the reminder you're still married not a ring #gmb."
A second commented: "My husband always wears his, me not so much. I bake and garden a lot. #GMB."
A third typed: "Aren't wedding rings a significant part of marriage? 'I give you this ring to wear as a symbol of my enduring love, my eternal faith, and my undying devotion...' #gmb."
Both Ben and Charlotte were seen wearing their respective wedding rings on the show.
The former tied the knot with his long-term wife Annie in 2004 and they share two teenage sons together.
Charlotte has also been married for several years to husband Mark Herbert and the pair share a young daughter together.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
