Piers Morgan sparks divide as he rages against Meghan and Harry 'lie' about Lilibet's name
Piers Morgan sparked a debate as he raged at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's alleged lie about asking Queen Elizabeth for permission to name their daughter Lilibet.
Piers Morgan has shared his scathing reaction following claims Queen Elizabeth was outraged after hearing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry allege they had asked for permission to name their daughter Lilibet.
In a new book, Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, by Robert Hardman, one member of staff claims the late Queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex publicly claimed they would not have used the monarch’s family nickname if she were not “supportive”.
Piers wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, to his 8.7 million followers on Monday: “Wow... so they lied about having her support. Imagine doing that to the Queen as she neared the end of her life? Just disgusting.”
The TalkTV host’s tweet sparked a huge public debate, with some backing Piers’ sentiment while others urged him to stop criticising the couple.
Erin wrote: “Give it a rest.” While another questioned: “Did all the other women ask Elizabeth if they were allowed to use her name as their daughter’s middle name? Kate? Eugenie?”

Harrison added: “Why should they need permission to use a name though? Seems a bit ridiculous.”
However, others also reacted angrily to the claims. One chimed in: “I detest them both. Keep at it, Piers They deserve everything thrown their way.”
While another user commented: “Imagine doing that to your own grandmother.”
In the new biography, which is serialised in the Daily Mail, Robert Hardman wrote: “One [staff member] privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been 'as angry as I'd ever seen her' in 2021 after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter 'Lilibet', the Queen's childhood nickname.

“The couple subsequently fired off warnings of legal action against anyone who dared to suggest otherwise, as the BBC had done. However, when the Sussexes tried to co-opt the Palace into propping up their version of events, they were rebuffed. Once again, it was a case of 'recollections may vary'."
When the couple welcomed Lilibet in 2021, the BBC reported that, contrary to what they had said, the Queen was not asked for her blessing to use the name. Other reports claimed that while she was contacted by Harry, she was not in the position to say no.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes hit back at the time: "The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement - in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called.
“During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honour. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
