Kevin Costner almost breaks down as he recalls emotional moment with five kids in Cannes

Kevin Costner almost couldn't hold back the tears when he attended Cannes to gear up for the release of his highly-anticipated film Horizon: An American Saga.

The new western movie, which features his 15-year-old son Hayes in a very special role and comes in two parts, is slated for release on June 28th.

The Costners attended the annual film festival to watch the film, which he has invested approximately $58 million into, for the first time - and apparently it was an emotional one.

The Yellowstone star brought five of his seven children to the event, where they all dressed up for the occasion and attended the premiere where Kevin received an 11-minute long standing ovation.

He could be seen visibly welling up at the overwhelming response from the audience and to make things even better his beloved children were there to witness it.

Speaking on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast shortly after he and his family attended the event, Kevin admitted: "I got emotional and my children were there.

"I had five of my children, two of my boys were in tuxes and my three little girls were there all dressed up and they were watching too.

"And they got a little startled by it, my son had not ever seen me be that emotional," he pointed out.

And it wasn't just the support of his children that got Kevin to well up it was the overall success of the film too.

"I was holding back because here's the camera and I could see this 100-foot screen behind him and that's me and I looked and I could see my eyes were full and I thought, 'Good [expletive], just stop crying,'" Kevin recalled.

"But I walked backwards and finally, I thought I should bring this to a stop.

"I didn't know there were gonna be remarks. I didn't know that was expected so I guess I was a little caught there too," he added.

Horizon: An American Saga is set to arrive in theatres on June 28, 2024.
