Simon Cowell shared a huge announcement on social media following claims Bruno Tonioli has been axed from Britain's Got Talent.

The music mogul, 64, took to Instagram to reveal he has finally joined rival social media platform, TikTok. In a video shared on his Stories, Simon told his two million followers: "Hello everyone. I am now officially on TikTok."

He added: "But I'm not going to dance or sing." Simon's announcement comes shortly after he was forced to shut down rumours that Bruno had been dropped from BGT after two years on the panel.

Speculation emerged after it was revealed auditions for the ITV talent show would begin in October as opposed to January, causing a scheduling conflict for Bruno, who is contracted to appear on Dancing with the Stars.

"He's committed to the US, but the new format for BGT is non-negotiable because the show will effectively be replacing Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway," a source told The Sun.

It was then rumoured Alan Carr could replace the former Strictly Come Dancing judge on the panel, joining Simon, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon for the show's 18th series.

Simon addressed the claims when he joined Jamie Theakston and fellow judge Amanda on their Heart Breakfast show. Jamie began: "I'm gonna read you a headline from one of the papers today Simon... 'Britain's Got Talent set to drop judge Bruno'... what [part] of that isn't truth?"

A bemused Simon responded: "I don't know where all this stuff comes from!" The dad-of-one insisted he "would not replace Bruno" and would only do so if Bruno's schedule made it impossible for him to appear on the show.

He added: "I spoke to the producers literally two weeks ago about a scheduling issue with Bruno." Simon confessed viewers could be greeted with a stand-in judge as Bruno will be in America during parts of filming.

Simon went on: "I love Bruno on the show. I think he's brilliant! I wouldn't change this judging panel... it's like your show, your number one. So why would I change BGT?"

Last week, Bruno spoke out for the first time since reports of his potential axe emerged. He shared an image which revealed that Simon is searching for his next boyband following the success of One Direction.

Bruno posted a link to sign up for Simon's search along with a poster that read: "Simon needs you! Are you the next global superstar and want to be in his new boy band? Aged around 16-18? Click below now to apply."
