Rylan Clark and Rob Rinder address relationship rumours

Rob Rinder has cheekily quipped that maybe he and Rylan Clark should get married after a flurry of romance rumours surrounded the pair.

The presenting duo have won even more fans with the success of their programme ‘Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour’, which also triggered speculation about their relationship, due to their on-screen chemistry.

Addressing the rumours, Rob, 46, said that Rylan, 35, likes to joke that they already are a married couple because they don’t have sex and row regularly.

Alongside presenting the hit BBC programme, Rob is also the face of a brand new Channel 4 documentary series that goes into depth about the British prison system.

Speaking to i about their close friendship earlier this month, Rob said: “Rylan jokes we’re already like a married couple because we row all the time and we don’t have sex. Maybe we should get married when we’re old. But now we’re really good friends.”

For now, the duo are both individually very busy as they continue to work and host their separate projects.

The former X Factor star has been fronting his new podcast series for BBC Sounds, entitled Rylan: How to Be in the Spotlight, while Rob’s latest presenting gig looked at what is considered by some to be Britain’s hardest prison, Dartmoor in Devon.

Over the centuries, the facility has had many hardened criminals walk through its gates.

One of its most famous was Joseph Denny, who was imprisoned there in the 1800s. During the episode, Rob shines a line on Joseph, who issued a damming verdict of Dartmoor.

Rob said: “He comes from Barbados, he's a sailor, he's got a previous conviction, burglary...He's described as 'an extraordinary criminal'...He had been kept on bread and water for 720 days at different periods."

Quoting from a newspaper of the time, Rob recounts Denny’s reaction to Dartmoor both before he moved and there and after he left.

Rob said: “The prisoner, when the sentence was pronounced, exclaimed, 'Why don't you send me to the gallows at once? I shall be sure to do something. I shall commit a murder before I have done'."

Rob reacted: “Here's somebody that would rather hang, rather kill someone than do another long-term sentence. We know he is sentenced to eight years and he goes to Dartmoor.”

After serving eight years in Dartmoor, Joseph Denny was released. Later, when Denny was put on trial again, he stated of the prison: "If there is a hell, that place is hell. I was treated worse than an animal whilst I was in prison, especially at Dartmoor.”

Rob Rinder's new series Britain Behind Bars: A Secret History airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4. All three episodes are also available to stream on All 4.
