SPOILER ALERT: Game of Thrones' Michelle Fairley on why the show won't follow the books
FANS of the George R.R. Martin novels were left stunned when season four of Game of Thrones didn't feature one of the book's biggest twists - and it seems it's going to stay that way.
Viewers watched in anticipation as season four came to a close - but they were rather disappointed when Catelyn Stark didn't make an appearance.
The feisty character was killed off in the infamous Red Wedding episode but in Martin's book she returns as Lady Stoneheart – a zombie incarnation of Catelyn.
Those who tuned in to the season four finale are well aware that no such thing happened and actress Michelle Fairley - who played Catelyn - has revealed it never will.
"Yeah, the character's dead – she's dead," she told Entertainment Weekly.
"You respect the writers' decision. I knew the arc, and that was it."
The 50-year-old actress added that it would be "impossible" for the show to follow the books 100 per cent.
Season five of Game of Thrones will return to TV screens in Spring 2015.
