Russell Brand hits back at Parklife ridicule by recording his own parody
RUSSELL BRAND has fired back at social media users who have ridiculed his political rants using BLUR's PARKLIFE by re-recording the song himself.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, who has positioned himself as a political and social commentator in recent months, has been mocked for his outlandish views and jargon-filled tirades in a viral campaign in which users hurled the word "PARKLIFE!" at the funnyman everytime he posted a message on Twitter.com.
The drive, which is a reference to Blur's 1994 song, spread to other sites including Amazon.com, with users replacing reviews of his new book with the word, and a number of video memes emerged featuring footage of Brand's rants spliced together with the band's video.
Brand has now tackled his critics by filming his own version of the Parklife promo with hip-hop comedy duo The Rubberbandits, changing the words to the song and adding his own convoluted messages about politics and social reform.
The video has prompted further criticism from social media users, who have accused Brand of attempting to hijack the running joke to further broadcast his anti-democracy stance.
