Macca is Nick’s star fan
A WAREHOUSE worker has been plucked from relative obscurity to be nominated for the UK’s most prestigious song-writing prize – an Ivor Novello.
Previous winners include Sir Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Amy Winehouse.
Nick Hemming, 35, a guitarist and song-writer for little-known Indie band The Leisure Society, will fight it out with Mercury prize-winners Elbow for Best Song next month. The Staffs-born musician – endorsed on the Ivors website by Sir Paul and John Barry – is nominated for the band’s debut single, The Last Of The Melting Snow.
It was released to critical acclaim last December but failed to make the Top 40.
