Charlotte Church, you were had!
CHARLOTTE Church has apologised for flippant comments she made about the Queen. I doubt if her Maj took much offence at being described as an old lady who failed to recognise Charlotte despite meeting her more than once.
It is rather more telling that her critic complains in passing that her words were “sensationalised”.
They probably were but Ms Church has been on the celebrity circuit long enough to know that is an occupational hazard.
I spent much of my time on Strictly dodging traps.
What did I think of the skimpy outfits? I replied that I worried the contestants might get a bit cold, thus avoiding the row the interviewer was seeking by getting me to criticise my competitors. I was even asked what I thought about Section 28.
As that argument took place more than a decade ago and as there were a few openly gay men around the set his agenda was hardly difficult to spot.
The media like rows so if you don’t want your words taken out of context don’t utter them in the wrong place. I’ve never sought to disguise my views but there is a place for them, which was not in the middle of a family pantomime act.
