Just throw away the key
REDUCING the minimum prison sentence handed down to Roy Whiting is an affront to natural justice.
The cold-blooded sexual assault and murder of a child by a predatory paedophile is the most terrible crime it is possible to imagine.
Some may say it is academic whether Whiting’s minimum sentence is 50 years or 40 years given that he is already in his 50s and still has 30 years to serve even under the new, more lenient term.
In which case why was he afforded legal aid to press for the change and why was the family of murdered Sarah Payne put through the agony of yet another day in court?
The truth is that there was nothing disproportionate about the original sentence. In the lamentable absence of the death penalty then at the very least life should be guaranteed to mean life for this vile specimen of humanity.
