Water crisis is infuriating
AFTER several wet summers and still wetter winters, it beggars belief that much of Britain is now facing drought warnings and potential hosepipe bans.
While many river flows are far below normal and rainfall has been lower than average this year, there is simply no excuse for this country’s lack of water storage capacity.
Many far more arid regions of the world are able to keep water supplies flowing even in high summer.
That the mere possibility of a fine summer should inevitably be accompanied by dire warnings of water shortages is one of the most dispiriting aspects of British life. The water companies need to do much better.
