Just pick up the bins
WEEKLY bin collections, once as familiar as the twice-daily postal delivery (remember that?), are becoming an endangered species.
Since the coalition came to power half a million more homes have lost the service even though the Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles described it as “a basic right”. It is true that the coalition inherited a ridiculous situation where councils were rewarded for meeting recycling targets and are heavily charged for disposal of non-recyclable rubbish.
But it’s time the Government put pressure on councils to adhere to government policy and to serve the taxpayers. It’s not a lot to ask.
