DEBATE: Is life too easy for lags?
MILLIONS of pounds of taxpayers’ cash has been “shamefully” wasted ferrying prisoners’ relatives to jail and putting digital TV sets in cells.
Freedom of Information documents revealed more than £6.7million has been paid out in the last three years alone to help relatives on benefits visit a loved one in jail.
As part of the Assisted Prison Visit scheme, families can use the cash to pay for anything from taxis and food to overnight accommodation.
