Property up in Hamptons
DESPITE the recession, property prices are looking up in one of America’s exclusive postcodes, the wealthy Hamptons area of New York.
A 14-acre estate belonging to the late Howard Gittis, the charismatic adviser to Revlon cosmetics billionaire Ronald Perelman, has gone to an unnamed bidder for a eye-watering £28million – a huge increase on the £5million Gittis paid in 1993. Some interesting nightcaps must have taken place there, as it was Perelman who was dragged into Bill Clinton’s personal affairs in 1998 when he was asked to find Monica Lewinsky a job away from Washington.
