Lembit Opik makes comedy debut
LEMBIT ÖPIK’S debut as a stand-up comic was never going to be low-key but did the ex Lib Dem MP for Montgomeryshire need to bring his own heckler?
The 45-year-old and his talking shoe prop topped the bill at the Backstage Comedy Club in London’s Leicester Square in front of a packed house, including Labour MP Stephen Pound, who joshed about Lembit’s lost seat.
Lembit attempted to outdo ventriloquist Nina Conti with a cast-off brogue.
“Lembit is not having a nervous breakdown!” the shoe declared before Lembit announced plans to take the show on the road.
