Life’s rosy for Terry Wogan
HE already has a sweet pea named after him and now that a new rose has also been given his monicker Sir Terry Wogan concludes: “I do best up against the wall”.
The Togmeister, a reference to the veteran presenter’s fans, Terry’s Old Geezers and Gals, will be presented at this week’s Hampton Court Flower Show. The 71-year-old has had many an accolade, including his knighthood and a gold Blue Peter badge, but says the yellow rose is particularly important.
“It’s lovely. It’s a great honour, though I’d imagined it would be a kind of purply colour – like my broken veins.
“I’ve had a sweet pea named after me before. Apparently, I do best up against a wall,” he tells Radio Times. And Terry has another reason for being pleased about the rose.
“My mother’s name was Rose and I have the flower on the crest of the College of Arms made up for me when I got the knighthood.”
Limerick-born Sir Terry, who signed off from his Radio 2 breakfast show in December, will next be seen fronting a TV documentary about Ireland.
