Ringo Starr blitz dodge
AS Ringo Starr prepares to return to his native Liverpool as part of his new UK tour, a book claims the former Beatle almost perished in the city during the Second World War.
Records show that German bombers struck just yards from baby Ringo’s home at 9 Madryn Street a few weeks after his birth in 1940, killing three neighbours.
The property has recently been at the centre of a row following council plans to demolish the house, despite campaigners’ claims it has historic importance.
In Liverpool Blitzed: Seventy Years On, author Neil Holmes states: “The baby who was to find fame as Ringo Starr was very lucky not to have lost his life that night.”
