Book fans are over the moon as an iconic children's author - who was a huge part of many childhoods - is making a comeback.

Fans say it is "the best news ever" after Jacqueline Wilson confirmed she will be bringing out a new book. The author is best known for the creation of iconic character Tracy Beaker in the book The Story of Tracy Beaker - which later turned into the beloved TV show.

Some of her other popular books include Double Act, Girls in Love, Vicky Angel, and Lola Rose. The impressive 78-year-old old author has written over 100 books and remains a household name.

Taking to Instagram, one fan said her books "defined my preteen years" and "some of the books I credit for my love of reading", said another. Now Jacqueline says an adult sequel to the Girls series, Think Again, is coming out - and fans can revisit some of their favourite characters who are now in their 40s.

Taking to her Instagram page, the beloved writer said: "I'm very excited to tell you about my new novel Think Again, which is coming this September. Nearly 30 years ago I wrote a quartet of novels about three 13-year-old best friends - Ellie, Magda and Nadine."

Jacqueline added: "Still today people come up to me in the street and tell me how much those books meant to them, and they often ask me what happened to these characters. I have seen tweets with some amazing suggestions. My new novel, Think Again, will answer those questions."

The 'Girls' series sees traumas and triumphs of Ellie, Magda and Nadine as they navigate their forties, sparking huge fan response. One thrilled fan exclaimed: "OMG it's happening, everyone stay calm." Another added: "This is the best news I've had in the last four years."

One stunned reader claimed: "I'm going to need a minute to process this," and another confessed: "My inner child is screaming with joy," A teary-eyed fan admitted: "I'm crying".

Reflecting on Jacqueline's influence, another said: "Your books were a core part of my childhood. You were the only author whose books I could not put down, whose books I spent hours under my duvet reading with a torch. You are so special, Jacqueline Wilson."

An excited reader said: "OMG I can't wait to read this, the Girls In Love box set was amazing,".

Wilson's latest, Think Again, is now available for pre-order, with general release scheduled for September.
