Bernie: Review
BERNIE tells the deeply odd true story of a small town do-gooder in Texas, Bernie Tiede, who became carer to a wealthy but cranky widow, Marjorie (Shirley MacLaine).
Driven round the twist by her demands he shot her dead but fooled the populace for several months into believing the old bat was alive and well.
Directed by Richard Linklater, this is a bizarre and intriguing tale but Bernie remains essentially unknowable and the picture lacks big laughs.
