Only God Forgives: review and trailer
ARE the wheels coming off the Ryan Gosling roadshow?
Only God Forgives sees the buff pin-up veering towards parody as he reunites with his Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn for another violent thriller in which his character poses moodily and says virtually nothing.
There’s a difference between minimal and meaningless and Gosling’s character here, an American drug dealer in Bangkok, is a blank waste of space.
Colour is provided by his ludicrous OTT mother (Kristen Scott Thomas) who arrives to exact revenge on the Thai killers of Julian’s no-good brother who was hacked to death for murdering a prostitute.
It’s stylishly shot but nasty, sickeningly violent and extremely dull
Charming eh?
It’s stylishly shot but nasty, sickeningly violent and, above all, extremely dull.
