The Art Of The Steal review: Half-hearted heist movie with all-star cast
THIEVES reunite for one last robbery in an a make-do heist movie with some moments of mirth
Director: Jonathan Sobol
Starring: Kurt Russell, Jay Baruchel, Matt Dillon, Katheryn Winnick
(Cert 15; 90mins)
An appealing cast almost make the difference to this film, a sloppy half-hearted caper that never seems to break sweat.
After a botched heist in Poland, master criminal Crunch Calhoun (Kurt Russell) winds up in jail while his stool pigeon brother Nicky (Matt Dillon) walks free.
Years later, Crunch and Nicky are reconciled and back in business with a cunning plan to steal priceless treasures, including a pointillist painting and a medieval manuscript.
Jay Baruchel provides some comic relief as wise-cracking apprentice Francie and there are some typically elegant moments from Terence Stamp as Samuel Winter, a former forger with fond childhood memories of his visits to the Victoria and Albert museum.
Decent enough but instantly forgettable.
