Way back in 2005, a good three years before Iron Man kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fantastic Four was released by Fox.
The film was well received and followed up by Rise of the Silver Surfer two years later.
However when it came to a dark, gritty reboot in 2015, the film completely flopped and was met with terrible reviews.
But now that Disney have made a deal to buy the rights from Fox, the Fantastic Four can finally enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Alongside the X-Men, they could be arriving at some point in Marvel Phase 4, the set of movies that follow on from next year’s Avengers 4.
And no one’s more excited by the prospect of rebooting Fantastic Four (well) than Ant-Man and the Wasp director Reed.
The filmmaker was involved in developing the a big screen adaption almost 20 years ago before Tim Story bagged the job with 2005’s Fantastic Four.
Nevertheless Reed hasn’t given up hope and is very keen should he have the chance in the MCU.
Speaking with Cinema Blend, Reed said: “Well, I have been known to mention Fantastic Four in conversations that may or may not have happened in the Marvel hallways.
“It's all a giant question mark at this point, because no one knows if this merger is going to happen.
“It was on, it was off, it was on... who knows. I guess I can dream, right?
“I can have the dream. We'll see. Time will tell!”
Reed’s dream may not be that farfetched seeing as Fox agreed to Disney’s bid of $71 billion last week.
Could it be about to become the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building? Fans will have to wait and see.
