Preview: Jah Wobble & The Modern Jazz Ensemble at Ronnie Scott's
IN WHAT promises to be a memorable Ronnie Scott's night, and one harking back to the club's cutting edge days of old, Jah Wobble & The Modern Jazz Ensemble will play a one-off gig at the Soho venue on Sunday, May 22.
The show is likely to nod heavily to the smouldering, electric jazz of mid-Seventies Miles Davis, The Art Ensemble Of Chicago and the sweeter sounds of Donald Byrd and Dave Brubeck.
The event will launch '7', the new album by a group that features Clive Bell (flute, woodwind), Marc Layton-Bennett (drums), Sean Corby (trumpet), George King (keyboards), Chris Cookson (guitar), Clea Llewellyn (vocals), Jah Wobble on bass and special guest Basil Gabbidon, founding vocalist and guitarist with UK reggae band Steel Pulse.
