Album of the week: Alela Diane - About Farewell
IF the very best albums are borne out of heartbreak, then Alela Diane's recent divorce might just be the making of her.
A folk singer-songwriter from Nevada, CA, Diane lays bare her experience with a devastating calmness, weaving an extraordinary spell from the opening Colorado Blue: possibly the saddest song you'll hear this year.
"You're a hound without a collar," she sings at one point, "and, honey, there's nothing I can do to save you from yourself".
Brave and brilliant.
Verdict: 5/5
