Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem welcome birth of first child
IT was a double celebration for acting couple Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem last night as the spanish siren welcomed the birth of her first child while Bardem received an oscar-nomination.
Cruz, 36, gave birth to the couple's first child in Los Angeles yesterday, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais.
The couple, who are notoriously private, have yet to reveal the gender and name of the baby.
The news came as Bardem, 41, received an Oscar nomination for his role in Biutiful.
The Spanish pair married in the Carribbean last July and held a baby shower at Cruz's LA home, inviting some of Hollywood's highest fliers, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Israeli model Bar Refaeli.
Both Cruz and Bardem have had a successful couple of years, with Bardem being crowned best supporting actor in 2008 for his role in No Country For Old Men and Cruz winning the best supporting actress statue in 2009 for Vicky Christina Barcelona.
