The Obamas unveil their First Puppy
IT became one of the most famous promises during his election campaign.
And today the daughters of the US president finally got their wish - a puppy to join them at the White House.
The Obama family revealed their 'First Puppy' will be a 6-month-old black-and-white Portuguese water dog named Bo.
They said their choice was narrowed down to either a Portuguese water dog or a Labradoodle because daughter Malia has allergies.
The lucky dog, who was one of the White House's most closely-guarded secrets, was given to the family by Senator Edward M. Kennedy as a present for Obama's daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7.
He is rumoured to have been bred at kennels in Texas and sold to someone who later returned him.
Sen. Kennedy said in a statement: "We couldn’t be happier to see the joy that Bo is bringing to Malia and Sasha.
"We love our Portuguese water dogs and know that the girls — and their parents — will love theirs, too."
Speculation over which breed the family would settle for has been a hot topic in America since election night, when Obama revealed he would buy his daughters a puppy as a reward for coping with the long-running campaign.
And the puppy, reportedly named after singer 'Bo Diddley,' looks set to become world-famous all on his own.

Michelle Obama is believed to have signed a deal with The Washington Post for the dog's first world exclusive.
