Luggage firm packing a punch
A BAG-HANDLING firm that can whisk luggage directly to holiday destinations is taking on airlines such as Ryanair and British Airways as they ramp up charges for hold bags.
Carrymyluggage.com has slashed its one-way tariff for taking a suitcase to anywhere in the EU by about a third to £65, or £99 for two cases.
Owner Simon Huxford said the door-to-door service, which promises to have your bags at your holiday destination before you arrive, now makes economic sense for all travellers, not just the wealthy.
Ryanair last month raised its charge for checked in luggage to £30 for one 15kg bag and £70 for a second, with a £20 booking fee.
Every extra kilogram exceeding the 15kg limit will incur a £20 fee.
From October 7, British Airways will begin charging £40 for a second bag and £90 per bag thereafter.
The airline has also axed its free sporting equipment policy, meaning skis and snowboards will be considered items of luggage.
Huxford said: “People are definitely getting cheesed off with the rising charges for checking in luggage.”
