The Tote set to go in public fire sale
THE Government plans to sell bookmaker The Tote as part of an offloading of state assets to shore up the public finances.
The fire sale, which will raise billions of pounds, will also include the high-speed rail link between London and the Channel Tunnel, part of the student loan book, the Dartford Crossing over the Thames and the air-traffic control service.
George Osborne also announced plans to “facilitate a long overdue private capital injection” into the Royal Mail.
“These assets should be in private ownership,” he said.
