Car tax bands: How to check my car tax amount
CAR TAX bands, otherwise known as Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), divides people's dues depending on their car emissions and fuel types. How do you check your car tax amount?
Martin Lewis gives money-saving advice on VED car tax
Car tax bands split annual payments on a basis of emissions into 13 separate categories ranging from nothing to thousands of pounds, and are decided by the Government. People need to update their VED once a year depending on how "clean" the Government sees their car and the date of registration. But the process can be tricky, as officials often choose to shift the values with each tax band.
How to check your car tax amount
Checking a car tax band will require people to stare at charts for a little while.
The Government divides them into 13 bands split across two distinct periods.
People will have to identify their rate based on when they registered their car, whether from March 1, 2001, to March 31, 2017, or April 1, 2017, to March 30, 2020.
