Scotty Kilmer shares best used car that's 'dependable' and cheap - prices start at £1,000
One of YouTube's most recognised motoring personalities has shared his views on one of the most reliable used cars, with prices starting at £1,000.
A popular mechanic has shared his thoughts on one of the best used cars drivers can buy without spending an absolute fortune.
Scotty Kilmer has worked on cars since the 1960s and regularly creates YouTube videos sharing advice that can help drivers save money on their motoring bills and avoid expensive damage.
In one of his most recent videos, Scotty advises anyone looking for a dependable used car to consider a Toyota Yaris, but only if it was made in Japan.
He explained: "Today I'm going to show you how, if you buy the right Toyota Yaris, you can get a great little car.
"The first thing you do is see where it was made. This one says 'Made in Japan', and that's much better than the ones made in China."
In the video, Scotty checks the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which can usually be found near the bottom corner of the windscreen or printed on a small sticker in one of the door frames.
This can tell drivers information about the vehicle, including the country in which it was built, the model year and the manufacturing plant code.
The 17-digit code can also help drivers learn about the size of the engine, the type of transmission and the fuel the vehicle uses.

Scotty suggested that the Yaris is also an incredibly well-built model, telling viewers about the owner who has used the car for 15 years.
He added: "Now, they are barebones cars but they'll get you where you're going. This [Yaris] belongs to its original owner, it's got around 150,000 miles and basically he's just changed the oil in this thing.
"Now, he bought this new for $13,000 (£10,150) and he's had it for about 15 years, so that's less than $1,000 (£780) per year! So, if you're looking for a cheap little dependable car, check out a Japanese-made Toyota Yaris."
Built over four generations since 1999, the Toyota Yaris is the smallest model in the Japanese company's range and has a good reputation for solid build quality and low running costs.
Whilst most of the first-generation models are long in the tooth, its replacement, made from 2005 to 2011, is widely available from £1,000 to £3,000.
Examples of the third-generation, typically priced from about £3,500, are slightly more stylish and offer additional passenger and luggage space.
